Time for Oscoda, After Dark

There's a brilliant pre-dawn sky show going on these days of winter

If you're an early riser like Johnny (years of stupid habit), you're used to seeing some amazing sights in the pre-dawn sky. Such a show has been taking place in January and will do so for the early part of February as well. If you look into the eastern sky you'll see from your L to R, Venus, the moon (It'll come and go) and Jupiter. Yes, the other bright 'star' is Jupiter.

Coffee and a sky show to start your day, nice!

The Doctor called Mrs. Cohen saying, "Mrs. Cohen, your check came back." Mrs. Cohen answered, "So did my arthritis!"

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE CARS!

Is there ever a time The Cars don't sound good and nourish the ears (First 3 albums)? One of the most underrated bands in Johnny's opinion. Just a plethora of great tunes could start us off tonight but how about this classic from their first album, 'Good Times Roll'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with TRANSPLANTS!

Johnny's just glad it so cold out. He couldn't play this song, 'Diamonds and Guns' on a spring or summer night. No no. He knows one listen to this anthem and you're gonna go out and do two things, drive and fight because this is an ultimate driving and fighting song.

Go ahead...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with JEFFERSON STARSHIP!

Mickey Thomas just sings the shit out of this song doesn't he? One of those few remaining great songs after Jefferson Airplane began their quick descent (See what Johnny did there?) to Jefferson Starship then just Starship ending in a fiery wreck that was 'We Built This City'.

But this is 'Jane' taking us out tonight.

State trivia night

The 1976 Winter Olympics were in Calgary Alberta Canada. They weren't supposed to be. They were supposed to be held in this US state but state voters said no, by 62% because they just didn't want the cost, pollution and population boom. Which state? Answer here.

The Oscoda City Desk Action Weather team is relaying a winter weather advisory

By this time tomorrow there should be a cool 4-7 inches of new precipitation, in the form of snow (it might be rain at the tail end). The snow kicks off between 4-5 PM today and will go through the night. It will keep Johnny from a trip to Alpena this evening and isn't that just a little sad.

Q: What's the difference between a walrus and a banana?
A: You'd better find out, because if you ever try to peel a walrus...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with WANDA JACKSON!

Warm it up Chris, Warm is up Chris, Johnny's about to -- Wanda Jackson kicking off a c-c-c-cold weekend so movin and a groovin' is on the menu. She's just a national treasure. Johnny got a signed CD from Ms. Jackson from his good friend, that meant SO much.

Stepping off the parade tonight, 'Let's Have a Party'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE DOORS!

There is an innocence and sincerity and even a menace in Jim Morrison's voice on, 'You're Lost Little Girl' that has always struck Johnny. Robbie Krieger and Ray Manzarek and just pitch perfect. It's one of those gems that never came on the radio so you had to find in on the album. Johnny's an old album rat so here you are Oscoda, just a fabulous song.
An album cover all-timer...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with INI KAMOZE!

Now here's a classic and brothers and sisters listen to Brother Johnny preach, we're going to need some hotstepping around here until Tuesday. The rumors were true and it's about to become balls cold.

Ini Kamoze had begun releasing reggae records in Jamaica in the early 80's but he was one of those "overnight successes" you hear tell of with this brilliant jam, 'Here Comes the Hotstepper' in 1994. If you've ever wondered what the chorus sings behind Mr. Kamoze, it's "mur-der-er"

Now you know.

Late night open thred

This weekend is sounding like a hunker down watch football and eat snacks kind of event. Frigid temps coming in for Saturday and Sunday, be ye warned.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

First sunlight

Johnny was out early walking the dire wolf and got to watch the sunrise make it's first impressions of the day on the woods he was walking in. You can't take this picture anywhere else in the world. Know why? That tree is in Oscoda.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN!

Classic name and classic song kicking things off tonight, 'The Killing Moon' on the Music Series.

Echo was the name given to the band's drum machine originally. It kinda stuck.

Friday night MULTIMEDiA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE TEMPTATIONS!

Friday night Motown? Always the right call. Let's bring the room down (LOL) a little bit and put on some slow dancing music. By the time you hear the strings on 'Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)' you'll be in love.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE PRETENDERS!

Oh the 'What could have beens" with this band. Not that Chrissie Hynde didn't make great rock and roll songs after the passing of James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon but if they could have kept their drug habits in check for another ten or so years oh the places this band might have gone.

A longtime Johnny fave, taking us out tonight it's, 'Day After Day' from a promotional video for the song.

Since today is National Trivia Day Johnny thought he'd drop this one on you cats and kittens; In 1967 Jimi Hendrix opened for The Monkees on their first U.S. tour.

Time for Jersey City, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SPLIT ENZ!

Another one of those songs you probably loved but haven't heard in forever, 'I Got You' by Split Enz.

Sherman, set the Wayback Machine for late 1979, we're having lunch with a Mr. Neil Finn.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BJORK!

See, this is why people are afraid of bears, right here. Showing impressionable music fans bears eating their favorite Icelandic rock stars could even lead to resentment. Imagine poor Bjork, it traumatized her into wearing a swan dress.

Fucking serial killer bear. 'Human Behaviour' up next...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MIKE NESS!

If the beginning of this song doesn't get your attention, you're dead. Seriously. What a rocker in classic form this is. 'Crime Don't Pay' taking us out tonight with a vengeance.
