Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NEKO CASE!

Tonight we're gonna go with a soundtrack theme, all tonight's songs have played a great part in one movie or other.

Kicking things off with some absolutely seminal Neko Case with 'Furnace Room Lullaby' which was the title cut on the album bearing the same name. It was used in the movie, The Gift, clips of which are provided most handily in this video. Songs don't get more haunting than this.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS!

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs' song 'El Matador' in Grosse Pointe Blank, you remember, the song where everyone at the reunion is dancing all crazy and Paul Spericki finally gets his dance with Jenny Slater? Move the furniture back kids, here we go...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with JIMMY BUFFET!

Finishing off a spirited soundtrack night here's one of Johnny's favorites from the Fast Times at Ridgemont High soundtrack, 'I Don't Know (Spicoli's Theme)' by Jimmy Buffett. Makes one want to call Mr. Pizza Guy.

Late night open thread

Social Season is upon us here in Oscoda. We're perfect hosts. Y'all come up and see us, hear?

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ROSANNE CASH!

Johnny read an interview with Rosanne Cash and she said this song, 'Dreams Are Not My Home' was about how after getting the news of her father's death she went for a walk. She wound up in a church and up near the steeple where she took in the sights and contemplated how her life had just changed. It's a beautiful song and a great story Johnny hopes he did justice to.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE DRAMATICS!

Originally The Dramatics were named The Dynamics. It was a win/win, both names fit the Detroit band. 'Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get' keeping the party rolling.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SMASHING PUMPKINS!

Always a favorite here at the Oscoda City Desk, Smashing Pumpkins rocking you out the door with 'Stand Inside Your Love' which Billy Corgan was about the only love song he's ever written.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NICK LOWE!

Psssst, you kids wanna be cool? You gotta start going to the Church of Nick Lowe, The Jesus of Cool. You best get churched and Johnny will deliver the first sermon, it's called, 'Cracking Up' and it's starting the Music Series tonight.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE KINKS!

Such a perfectly executed simple song, the true difference between a band like The Kinks and a band not on the Music Series. It follows a classic rock and roll blueprint yet The Kinks turn out a classic high-level rocker that you are gonna dig because you haven't heard this one in a while.

'Do It Again' making your ears happy in a way Q-Tips never can.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with JUNIOR BROWN!

So, Johnny got a new car this week. It's got a lot of let's call it, pep. Johnny already drives cars like he stole them so what a perfect song and sentiment to head out into this beautiful, brisk spring evening, 'Highway Patrol' and this kids is a great live performance.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with LIZ PHAIR!

We're going to step off tonight with a fantastic cover song. You'll remember of course the old Vapors' tune 'Turning Japanese' unless you were somehow orbiting Earth through the entirety of the 1980's. In the hands of one Liz Phair (and backed by Material Issue) it truly takes on a heavy guitar grind and adds a top flight voice.

Also, it rocks.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE WHITE STRIPES!

Johnny of course is a Spartan fan but he know his Wolverine fan frienemies get a charge out of this one so, with the idea of being a good guy, you Big House regulars enjoy 'Seven Nation Army'.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with FATBOY SLIM!

Taking you out the door into the streets tonight with something that's really gonna have you moving. Not many people know this but when Christopher Walken filmed this video, 'Weapon of Choice' he filmed all the scenes with a watch......up his ass...
A good ear will pick up the legendary Bootsy Collins on this one.

Late night open thread

The reason the Music Series was late tonight was that Johnny just got back from Winterfell earlier tonight. He mentioned he was heading there last week for the big fight. After killing like a kabillion orcs he got tired and went inside the castle and wandered around like one of the dead but when Johnny would get near one, he would make all stabby with the dragonglass and they'd be gone. On the downside there were like no vending machines in Winterfell AT ALL and getting a Gatorade after the battle was impossible.

Yeah, so that's why it was late.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA WITH TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS!

One of Johnny's fave-o-rite songs ever from one of the best albums to ever be an album, Damn the Torpedoes. Johnny has lost track how many times he had to tell his pup, "It's just the normal noises..." since getting up to Oscoda.

Sherman, set the Wayback Machine to 1979.  'Even the Losers' getting us started this week.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SAM COOKE!

Ok kids, don't play the video just yet. First, go into your kitchen and or pantry area. Open the doors and get out anything edible. Just prop that refrigerator door open. Lay as much food out in stations on the tables and counters as you can. Grab the biggest plate you own.

Go back to the music source or say. "Alexa play 'Wonderful World' by Sam Cooke" and once it comes on we'll know who the real fans of the Oscoda City Desk are because they'll know exactly what to do next.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with DEPECHE MODE!

Johnny loves the information left on this song on the Youtube: Track 7 of Violator.

See, you simply cannot quarrel with that logic. Well, you could but you'd lose. Taking us out tonight, 'Policy of Truth'
