Late night open thread

Johnny was relieved as a dog owner and a human being that Lady Gaga had her stolen dogs returned and her dog walker, who protected the dogs until he was shot twice, will recover fully. If someone took Johnny's dog, Oscoda and north and south up and down US-23 until he got it back would look like this, a crusade.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE POLICE!

One of Johnny'a all-time favorite music numbers, 'Walking on the Moon.'

While this song is off the off the Reggatta de Blanc album, Johnny would like to point out his name before he was adopted was indeed Zenyatta Mondatta. He's never told anyone this before. Consider yourselves lucky.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SANTANA!

What's the old adage about how if one of your good friends at Northern Michigan University buys the Santana Zebop album and plays it all day and all night for months you'll find a song you really like and will use on your blog's Music Series one day? This song is kind of like that. 'Over and Over' up next.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE STOOGES!

Ending another Music Series with some of that great sounding Music from the Mitten. The band formed in Ann Arbor but Iggy Pop himself is from Ypsilanti Township, an inconvenient truth that some in Ann Arbor see as 'No Fun'

Did you know then, NONE of these work in New York City. Push all you want, they were disconnected years ago. This one is in Jersey City. It works.

Johnny has a BIG update on the Northern Roots dispensary

You kids ready for this? Tomorrow. At the very latest Thursday Northern Roots provisioning center in Au Sable Township (Oscoda Township reminded Johnny once on Twitter this wasn't their gig) will be selling recreational marijuana products.

That's the post. Tomorrow, certainly by Thursday Oscoda residents can start paying the 10% excise tax and keep it local, rather than feeding the East Tawas coffers.

The Oscoda City Desk is releasing this 'MLive Dead-Zone' map for our readers

If you live in northeast Michigan, you know by now that MLive gave up covering this area long ago, if they ever really started. Johnny has been working on this "MLive Dead-Zone Map" for all our readers so you can check and see if your town might be in this area and then expect no coverage from a news outlet claiming to cover all of Michigan.

Keep this map in mind kids when you visit the site (and they load your browser up with monetized trackers while complaining about your ad blockers) and they ask you to subscribe. If you're from NE Michigan, subscribing is pointless unless you want to know what's up every day in Ann Arbor, Saginaw, Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Lansing, or the Upper Peninsula.

You know, everywhere you're not.

Where would our readers like the giant Owl statue soon to go up in Tawas?

After yet another smashing of a Tawas team by our Oscoda Owls, this time an 85-39 thrashing at the hands of the Oscoda boys basketball team, Johnny thinks it's time for a giant 20 foot tall bronze owl statue somewhere in Tawas.

They need a reminder of who their overlords are.

So Johnny is proposing a 20 foot tall bronze owl statue somewhere in the Tawas City/East Tawas area. Should it be near the dispensaries in ET? How about outside the State Police post there? It's unmanned, let the owl look after things. Johnny's proposal would be waterside right where US-23 and M-55 meet.

What say you Oscoda Owls fans? Where should this statue to continued domination be placed?

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE MOODY BLUES!

This will probably surprise you, it did Johnny at first but go ahead and guess which band consistently has brought the highest incoming traffic in the history of the Music Series. Go ahead, guess. Yep, the Moody Blues songs really do draw the folks from around the interworld. There must be a flare that goes up when something gets posted. The numbers have proved this since City Desks have been posting music. So, once again, into the catalog with an obvious favorite, 'I'm Just a Singer (In A Rock and Roll Band).

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with PAT BENATAR!

Johnny has been a music maven for as long as he can remember. The first thing he did when he got an album back when was put it on and begin memorizing liner notes (When you ave Johnny's memory you can do that). He's an ultimate fan of the genre. Johnny holds music sacred. To misquote Sam Kinison in Back to School:

Sacred. The way a farmer looks at the Earth and holds it sacred. The way a Christian takes the Bible… and he holds it sacred. The way a lot of people hold their marriage sacred.

The fact Pat Benatar was on the nominating ballot for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year and wasn't even on this year is a WTF moment for all time. This should be, in Johnny's considered opinion, a LAYUP. It's shouldn't get much easier than this but for some reason those voting have adopted the old Jersey City Planning Commission "routine" of filling up on Cocoa Puffs every morning and running around to no good end all day. This video won't get her in but it will kick off our "FREE PAT BENATAR!" movement. It begins when you click play on 'Le Bel Age'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SQUEEZE!

How about it. Johnny is just guessing this one is gonna be earworming you all tomorrow. That's what the last tune on the Music Series is for, to keep you thinking about the Music Series for a bit longer. To that end here's Squeeze with 'Hourglass'

Late night open thread

You all know by now how bloody hard it is to get a business endorsement out of Johnny. He'd like to pass one along to the good people at TIER4 Technical Support here in Oscoda. They handled all Johnny's recent issues as quickly and efficiently as one would hope at a price he had to ask twice, "Are you serious?" Not because the cost was high, but lower than expected. Johnny has worked around the computing biz long enough in his life to know good tech service. They have it.

Saturday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with PINK FLOYD!

You know the game kids are all about these days, two truths and a lie? Well let's see if Johnny can't work that into the Music Series.

1) Johnny has been at 3 Red Wings games where a Red Wing has scored a hat trick.
2) Johnny owns an authentic RCMP Mountie coat.
3) Johnny wandered into a recording session for Pink Floyd and could see David Gilmour was stuck. Johnny said, "Gimme that" and riffed for a while, it sounded a lot like the end of this song and afterward Roger Waters asked Johnny to be in a new band.

So, there you go. probably an impossible task. Johnny imagines people sitting on the website all week pondering which one is the lie. Good luck. At least you get to hear 'Comfortably Numb' all week though.

Saturday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE CHAMBERS BROTHERS!

Next time that pre-roll passes you by you can go ahead and get good and 'Psychadelicized" and enjoy this awesome classic, 'Time Has Come Today' which is on almost every driving playlist Johnny has ever made.

Going back to cassettes.

Saturday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with FATS DOMINO!

Certainly there's nothing wrong with taking the Music Series out with a little retro style and bygone groove. How about it, let's get it you hep cats and kittens with the stax of wax and all the platters that matter -- Here's Fats Domino and the classic, 'I'm Walkin''

Late night open thread

Johnny had a late date night (Yes, he does that now) so we'll have ourselves a fine Music Series tomorrow evening.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with DON HENLEY!

Johnny knew this night was coming one day. A Music Series would fall on the anniversary of his wife's death. He didn't think it'd be three years on. Here we are though and rather than treating it as some maudlin overdone tribute, Johnny is simply going to play some of her favorite songs. She loved music as much as Johnny did. Music is a wonderful thing isn't it? A great thing to bond over in any young relationship.

First up, enjoy it while it's on the YouTube kids. It's a Don Henley song and we know his people clean his music off of YouTube pretty quickly. This, though, was one of her all-time favorite songs. Johnny is glad it's up if even just for tonight. 'The Boys of Summer' was always a favorite driving jam of hers.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE THE!

Another band Mrs. Johnny got Johnny into was The The. She would play him the Soul Mining cassette  for hours while we did cool young people things. She was the one who told people it's Jools Holland on the piano on this track with the brilliant long outro.

No moss on her. 'Uncertain Smile' up next.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS!

Most bands, really pretty much every band does not start out headlining CBGB's or as the house band at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are no exception. On this night honoring the bands that made Mrs. Johnny so happy, she often told the tale about seeing the Chili Peppers, paying their dues, performing at a Lansing area roller skating rink way back in the day. That's right, she could 'shoot the duck' and listen to a band that one day would be releasing more her favorite music.

'Otherside' taking us out into the frigid February air.
