Late night open thread

Johnny's gonna tell the grandkids this is The Beatles.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with STEELY DAN!

Yesterday was Johnny's birthday, you know what that means. Yep, he's going to indulge himself on his own blog, the nerve! Granted, this song could well have wound up on any Music Series it's so good. This album ranks top ten all-time with Johnny, oh yes, and he thinks the title track 'Aja' is as beautiful a piece of music as one can hear any day of the year.

No no, save the Backwoods Smokes for the next song.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NEKO CASE!

You never can't go wrong with a Neko Case song, especially off the killah Furnace Room Lullaby album. Turn the song up loud, put your feet up, light up a cool tasting Backwoods Smokes if you still have a box from the 1970's and enjoy, 'Twist the Knife'

You'll be my guest
And I'll let you stay
Leave me the check
I'll pay with the rest of my life
Twist the knife

GO!

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with LOS LOBOS!

While you may not be familiar with the song, Johnny is betting you're gonna carry the swerve of this one around with you all weekend. It's one of those songs that has feeling.

Get that smoking jacket on Bunky, it's, 'Kiko and the Lavender Moon' taking us out real coooooool.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with TEARS FOR FEARS!

Johnny always associates Tears for Fears with the late Mrs. Johnny. Oh, Johnny loves them fine thanks but to him they were always her band. Over the last couple three weeks Tears for Fears has been popping on the iTunes shuffle in the car more often than usual and they just popped up again while Johnny was looking for a big first song tonight. Must be a sign...

'Change' stepping us off tonight

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with GEORGE CLINTON!

Bow wow wow yippe yo yipee ay kids, it's Detroit's own George Clinton with Johnny's dog's favorite song, 'Atomic Dog'
Johnny tells his dog this is the most 80's video ever.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BILLY JOEL!

Johnny usually uses the last song of the Music Series to be a real mover, shaker or one you want to really sing out-loud, like all night long. Johnny thinks he hits all the marks with this classic, 'Only the Good Die Young'

OK, here it is, 'The Irish Rover' with The Dubliners & the Pogues getting you ready to drink and fight. Just drink and fight tonight maintaining social distancing.

God damn this is a good one...
Time for Oscoda, After Dark

The Chieftains with 'O'Sullivan's March'

Which, if you're a St. Patrick's Day regular to the City Desk, should give you a good idea as to our last song this evening, yet to come.

Katy Adelson with a brilliant version of the 'Swallowtail Jig' to get you through the dinner hour

Sinéad O'Connor & The Chieftains making lunchtime better

'The Foggy Dew' is always a St. Patrick's Day favorite.

Keeping the morning moving along with The Kings of Connaught

Those roads to Dublin are still rocky after all this time. Johnny will put a top man on it and get those roads in and out of Dublin paved.

The Kings of Connaught with 'The Rocky Road to Dublin'

KIcking off St.Patrick's Day 2020 with who else? The Dubliners

'Whiskey in the Jar' seems apropos, since nobody has to work or go to school anymore and it's all just about sitting around and reading the Oscoda City Desk.

Late night open thread

If you're one of these people intentionally staying out in bars or in public and posting your stupidity on Instagram or you're keeping your place of business open because coronavirus is a liberal hoax or a way to tank Donald Trump's numbers in an election year, YOU are more full of shit that a Christmas goose. It takes YOU an hour and a half to watch 60 Minutes.

YOU are a BAD American.

We clear? Good.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Johnny wants to pass along a way to support local businesses while we stay safely inside

If you are one of the people who can stay inside, mostly away from people.

LifeHacker has a nice suggestion of using gift cards purchased now, that can be used after the coronavirus dies down or goes away as Johnny has told it to. Let's support our local friends, fam...

One more quick note, Johnny got paid well to read the tea leaves of the news for big corporations and an 8-5 curfew has been suggested in states such as New Jersey. Ideas like this germinate quicker than the coronavirus so at some point Johnny is telling you that you may only be allowed out on the roads or in stores from 8-5 daily. Plan now.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE SMITHS!

You can hang the DJ all you want, it won't get toilet paper or Purell back on the shelves. The Smiths kicking off Coronavirus Night® here at the ballpark with the aptly named, 'Panic'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ALICE COOPER!

'School's Out' for summer, why yes, yes it is Mr. Detroit's Own Alice Cooper. Nobody knows when the good children of Michigan will once again take up pencil and paper and TrapperKeepers but until then let's bring the June a little earlier than normal.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with PEGGY LEE!

Peggy Lee has 'Fever'. That's not good. Johnny will just bet that if Peggy Lee called her doctor right now and said she had a fever, (and maybe sneezing) first he'd be surprised as hell because Peggy Lee died in 2002 but once he recovered from this joke he'd refer her to the local urgent care. They'd tell her to go to the emergency room. They emergency room would tell her they have no kits so testing would be impossible and to contact her primary care physician.

And so it goes...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE DOORS!

'Touch Me'? No Jim Morrison that's a BAD Jim Morrison. We're on quarantine and have to stay six feet away --- dammit Jim Morrison, Johnny said knock that off. And John Densmore, go wash your hands, who knows where those drumsticks have been.

Kids these days, buy 'em books, send 'em to school and all they do is eat the teacher.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with PETE TOWNSHEND!

Back in the day boy Johnny couldn't get enough of this song. Heck, he couldn't get enough of like every song off of the Empty Glass album. Nothing would sound better kicking off tonight's Music Series off that album than 'Rough Boys' so here we go! This one goes well with Remy Martin cognac if you were wondering what to pair it with...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SARAH MCLACHLAN!

Know who always sounds good on the Music Series? Sarah McLachlan that's who. Johnny is a big big fan of her music and her work with animals. Good music and a love of animals, more of that please. 'Into the Fire' in perhaps the bluest video ever made...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE CLASH!

Did you know then, '(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais' was voted song #437 of Rolling Stone's best 500 songs ever? You do now.  Some of the best song wordsmithing anywhere, take a listen.
