Late night open thread

At 8 p.m. on March 31, 1880, this city in this state became the first city in the world to be lit by electricity—via four “Brush lights,” invented by Clevelander Charles F. Brush.

Can you name the state and for extra points the city? Answer here.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE!

Johnny was just devastated as The Clash slowly came apart and finally broke up. Where was he gonna get his fix? Along comes Mick Jones with Big Audio Dynamite and you know what? It was pretty darned good. Johnny can be a hard sell on a group morphing into something different or the coming together of the supergroups like Asia and or The Power Station et al. This was different. Mick Jones got power up and saved the day. Always a soft spot for Big Audio Dynamite starting out tonight with 'E=MC2'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with DAVE MATTHEWS BAND!

This song, 'Two Step' always sounds good, in the house, in the car, shooting grouse, getting vaccinated, you name it. That's why it's on the Music Series. But you guessed that, huh?

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with JOE WALSH!

Friday night is movie night at Johnny's place and tonight was the classic "The Warriors" which is surely a love letter to that era of New York City. 'In the City' taking us out tonight.

"Good news boppers, the big alert has been called off. It turns out that the early reports were wrong, all wrong. Now for that group out there that had such a hard time getting home, sorry about that. I guess the only thing we can do is play you a song."

Late night open thread

Johnny's view of the big fire today on a pup walk. Between the Air Force and Forest Service Johnny is getting the feeling the government doesn't much like us up here.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SNEAKER PIMPS!

Johnny ADORES this song. This is desert island playlist stuff right here.

Sneaker Pimps with the hypnotic and oh so sonic, 'Six Underground'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE KINKS!

'A Well Respected Man' does allow one to ask if they knew anyone growing up, or someone they have met along the way in life that might just fit the bill for this song.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with OHIO PLAYERS!

Sending this one out to the US Forest Service for the hash they made out of their controlled burn today that started in East Tawas and ended up burning near the Lumberman's Monument and elsewhere in Oscoda Township.

Don't let it happen again. The Ohio Players with 'Fire' taking us out into the smoky hazy air that is Oscoda tonight.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE LIONS!

Every so often on the Music Series Johnny will drop a tune by a criminally underrated reggae band called The Lions. The important thing to see here is if you listen to this and agree with Johnny.

'Sweet Soul Music' leading off tonight and sure, smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SONIC YOUTH!

If you're not a Sonic Youth and or Kim Gordon fan well then you just can't hang in Johnny's treehouse...Let everybody know.

It'll be the treehouse with all the cool kids doing the 'Kool Thing'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with CHEAP TRICK!

Such a grand drum intro to this gem from Mr. Bun E. Carlos. Johnny has probably done the air drums to this song more than any air instrument he's ever "played" in his life. If he fucks up he can always start the song over.

Live from Budokan, it's 'Ain't That A Shame'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with GUSTER!

Ah, Guster. Johnny and Mrs. Johnny saw Guster one absolutely fabulous September evening in Central Park. One of those truly wonderful memories Johnny brought back with him to Michigan. 'Satellite' getting things going not from Central Park tonight but the offices here in the woods at the Oscoda City Desk.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NO DOUBT!

Johnny has been a No Doubt fan since right off the hop. First time he heard them he was a fan. He's not in love with Gwen Stefani's looks, (This is music, not a beauty contest, of course she's dazzling) but he is in love with her incredible stage and camera presence. Star power looks like Gwen Stefani. 'Hey Baby' bringing the energy tonight.

This video did make Johnny ask if there has been another band so equally tall. Lining up for school pictures might be difficult for No Doubt.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with FLEETWOOD MAC!

Johnny's a dreamer. One of his nonsensical ideas would be to sit outside at the Fleetwood Diner in Ann Arbor (cheeseburger and fries please) while Fleetwood Mac played on the sidewalk inches away. Stevie want a french fry? Actually we're closing out the Music Series with a Fleetwood Mac song before Lindsey and Stevie came on the scene. Bob Welch tonight on vocals with the timeless, 'Hypnotized'

Late night open thread

Why one doesn't watch the Weather Channel, they simply make shit up. Just an FYI.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BLUE OYSTER CULT!

Johnny got his second Covid-19 vaccine this week so let's say he's feeling a little less fear of the reaper than he was this time last year. It's been a terrible 12 months by any measure (Presidential election notwithstanding) and it certainly feels out there now that people have some hope. Johnny is noticing it in friends and neighbors talking about going out and doing things and making plans to go places.

So let's celebrate with 'Don't Fear the Reaper', you know, like ya do!
Agents of Fortune, LOL, in Johnny's town they were called carnies.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE SEEDS!

Not those mysterious Chinese seeds people got a while back, Johnny included, but THE Seeds, Los Angeles forerunners to punk garage bands. Let's face it, a lot of Wikipedia pages are either:

A) Hacked by Johnny years ago
B) DULL

The Wikipedia on The Seeds is actually quite interesting. Johnny was just using it to make sure they were indeed from LA and read their page and it's quite good.

'Pushin' Too Hard' up next. Great guitar solo in the middle of this gem.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with PAUL SIMON!

You could pick any number of Paul Simon songs here. A plethora of choices. A basket of choices. A shitload really. Johnny is going back as far as the 80's for this fabulous song off the Graceland album, 'The Boy in the Bubble'

If anyone ever asks you what the 80's looked like, they looked like this video.
