Late night open thread

This was the sight around East Tawas tonight about 20 minutes before Johnny's friend Eliza Neals was supposed to take the stage. What a storm. Amazing lightning out over Tawas Bay and Lake Huron.

Speaking of Tawas, how about those Oscoda Owls, starting the 2021 football campaign with a 36-16 drubbing of the Tawas Braves. Go Owls!

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Not quite yet, the Saturday Night Scoreboard Show returns next Saturday

There just aren't enough college football games today for a proper Scoreboard Show so that will happen next Saturday. Johnny loves putting those up like nobody's business and he does get some really great viewing numbers to boot. Patience friends, it's close.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ELIZA NEALS!

It's not very often on a Music Series Johnny will be able to say he's friends with an artist. He can say it here. Eliza Neals lived in the next building over from Johnny in Jersey City. Both Detroit-area ex-pats at the time a friendship was struck in JC. Johnny sure recognizes Eliza heading down the steps to the Grove St. PATH station at 6 seconds in.

Eliza Neals will be performing tomorrow night right down the street kids, seriously, at the Tawas Blues by the Bay in East Tawas at 6pm. You DO NOT want to miss her or this amazing blues voice. 'Sugar Daddy' getting us off on the right foot tonight!

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE ROLLING STONES!

Such a sad story earlier this week to hear of the passing of Stones drummer Charlie Watts. Johnny read a lot of well-earned tributes and discussions from fans about their favorite Charlie Watts' songs. Johnny has always thought 'Where the Boys Go' was an exceptional Charlie song but he didn't see it mentioned on anyone's list.

Let's correct that.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NEKO CASE AND HER BOYFRIENDS!

Johnny will have to ask Neko Case next time he sees her whether of not 'Honky Tonk Hiccups' require a mask or some kind of vaccination but Johnny will sure update everyone.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BRYAN FERRY!

The weekend Johnny met the incredible woman who would be come his wife one day she had the Bryan Ferry cassette Boys and Girls and on that album is the song, 'Slave to Love' which would go on to become "our song" and the one we danced to first at our wedding. Even though she passed in 2018 this song still emotes a wonderful and strong love shared for so long. Bittersweet? Sure. Fantastic? Always.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ROY ORBISON!

'Sweet Dreams' is one sweet singalong number isn't it kids? So, you go ahead and clear yourself a place to sing it properly. Yes, move the footstool, it'll only fuck you over in a minute and a half.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MARTHA REEVES AND THE VANDELLAS!

Boy howdy, sure is hot out there. Been hot for a few days now. Gonna be hot for a couple more. Know what that's called?

Trickeration. Here's 'Nowhere to Run'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BLACK NOTE GRAFFITI!

Johnny is by no means playing favorites with the Oscoda Rock Fest bands but felt this one might step things off nicely. 'Knights' just felt right in this slot.

Info on the show up next!

Friday night MULTIMEDIA with WE, THE INFAMOUS!

2019 Rock Fest returnees We, the Infamous helping rock a Music Series all about the Oscoda Rock Fest tomorrow at World Famous Furtaw Field®. The show starts at 12:30pm and ending around 11:30pm. That's a lot of rock for $15. If you're somehow undecided Johnny will remind you when the show starts tomorrow it'll be 73º and sunny along Lake Huron.

Enough talk, time for rock! 'Light Me Up' setting a mood.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SILVERSPORK!

It's called the Oscoda Rock Fest for a reason. That reason would be Silverspork showing up and playing songs like 'Perfect World'. Glad to see Silverspork and all the returning bands from 2019 back in our fair township.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with DAMNED BY DAWN!

When Johnny listened to this song for the first time he wished, oh how he wished his middle school and or high school guidance counselor and come at him with a message like this.

Seriously, even just the lyrics would have sufficed. 'Psychedelic Peach' rocks us on tonight.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with HERE AFTER SIX!

Remember how hard The Beatles tried to make you think they were actually performing in a cow pasture? Who could forget U2 'playing' their instruments in the snow. That's what Johnny loves about this video (besides the song), the band is on a bridge and they know you know they're not really playing to loosen up and have a good time. It's about the song. Johnny thinks this is just refreshing. Not everything has to be a big-ass production to be good. 'Hoodie' up next.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with KOUGARAN!

The Oscoda Rock Fest website calls Kougaran 'Detroit's young hellions of rock" which is a pretty good thing because Johnny was just saying this rocker, 'Urban Jungle' sounds like music young Detroit hellions might play.

Funny how it all works out. Turn your volume up!

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with CITRUS ORANGE!

Johnny has the grace to admit he's not familiar with most of the bands performing tomorrow. He will tell you he's truly enjoying listening to two or three songs by each band today to see what might sound best on the Music Series.

Johnny is nothing but a hype man tonight. 'Callin' Your Name' up next and one Johnny really is glad he found.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ASSAULT THE SILENCE!

Johnny remembers an old adage when he was younger, "If it's too loud, you're too old." In keeping with that spirit, here's Assault the Silence and 'Black Sun Rising'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with PETER TOSH!

Yes Johnny we know, you met Peter Tosh blah blah, Florida, beer, blah blah, Pink Elephant, just give us the list!

So, Johnny guesses you've heard that story. OK, 'Legalize It' starting off a 'smoke 'em if you got 'em' kind of night as Johnny, after much research is ready to release his first ever Top Ten Weed Strains in Oscoda and East Tawas. We hope you enjoy the list, and remember, if yours isn't on here you either smoke a lot of sativa and this is only Johnny's list.

10) GG4 -- Everywhere
The old "Don't call it Gorilla Glue" is fairly ubiquitous as strains go and can be found in many dispensaries here in Iosco County, Michigan, and as far away as Mars. We're listing this solid strain at #10 so no others had to feel all bad. GG4 is never a bad choice.

9) Russian Snow -- Northern Roots
A nice little number Johnny picked up one day as he simply likes trying new strains from time to time. Very smooth hitting. If you put ice in the bong the Russian Snow would probably just osmosis it's way into your lungs it's so light and airy.

8) Samoas 2 -- The Botanical & Co.
A stronger version of GG4 in Johnny's opinion, this was always a long-lasting high ie a great value purchase. However, it did not taste like the Girl Scout cookie Samoas at ALL.

7) Super Lemon Haze -- Northern Roots & The Botanical & Co.
A fresh smelling fresh hitting strain. Perfect for working out in the yard on those mundane weeding jobs quite frankly. A 'get things done' strain easy on the nose.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE BEATLES!

Legend has it The Beatles, yes The Beatles, smoked marijuana. Legend has it Paul McCartney was known to imbibe a lot. Now, we don't know if they did or if these stories are true, Japanese court rulings aside, but 'Within You Without You' really fits into our vibe here tonight.

6) White Mo -- The Botanical & Co.
Honestly this lil over-performer has turned out the best pre-rolls Johnny has smoked. No kidding. He'd buy them for his open bar (don't worry party cats and kittens, there's liquor and wine too) and guests were never let down.

5) Cataract Kush -- High Level Health
Johnny doesn't want to call it a poor man's Miracle Alien Cookies (though he pretty much did) this one is a wonderful 'head high' if you enjoy such things. A great strain to listen to music to.

4) Lilac Diesel -- The Botanical & Co.
The ultimate over-performer. First off, this is THE best smelling weed around. It's almost hard to believe the packet when opened contains marijuana. BUT nobody is buying it to just smell good. You want results. This strain started out in the low 20's THC-wise but really packed a punch and made it more than a novelty strain. Over time it grew to 30% THC and became one of Johnny's top choices. He actually felt it could be Botanical's flagship strain. Alas it hasn't been back at Botanical for a couple three months. Johnny eagerly awaits the return of Lilac Diesel.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE MOODY BLUES!

And here we are, Johnny's top 3 strains at the local dispensaries to be read over one of the best 'smoke 'em if you got 'em' songs around, The Moody Blues and 'Legend of a Mind' which, sure, is an acid song but you can sure appreciate it on the devil's lettuce too.

3) Citral Glue -- Northern Roots
This very Music Series is being written up on the Citral Glue from Northern Roots. A bad time for High Level Health's Bio Star mines to run out with this very strong, very long-lasting strain. A welcome new THC leaderboard member comes to Oscoda.

2) Miracle Alien Cookies -- High Level Health
The write up on the HLH site says it has a "flavor profile contains layers of sour, musky gas." Shit, Johnny just calls MAC 'The Gas.' It's a powerful high straight off and has one of the better 'high' feelings after a smoke.

1) Bio Star -- High Level Health
The King of Weed® When Johnny first tried it a couple years back it impressed immediately as a strain in the 24-26% THC range. It really stood out. Then the THC level climbed up and up and up. Johnny saw one batch tested at 34.99% THC. This is the ultimate 'Get where you're going to be before you smoke it' kind of strain. Wonderful at pain relief for Johnny's terrible knees after a long day. Bio Star defines Indica as In-Da-Couch.

Know what people love? Lists

Tonight Johnny is going to have a specially themed Music Series (Better get to your favorite dispensary now) and Johnny will offer his Top Ten weed strains found here in Iosco County, meaning East Tawas and Oscoda. Think on it and maybe you'll have some opinions to offer up on this very topic.
