Late night open thread

Hey good news, Johnny didn't get caught up in the same prostitution sting as Patriots owner Robert Kraft in Jupiter Florida. Also, Johnny's never been to Jupiter Florida. Also, Johnny's never been to a prostitute. Also,

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with U2!

Johnny was sooooo very glad he got to see U2 live with Mrs. Johnny before she passed, though it did come later in life. It was her favorite band and over time U2 became one of Johnny's favorites too. Getting us started tonight, it's U2 with 'Bullet the Blue Sky'

Outside it's America

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ROXY MUSIC!

Sometimes when Johnny is whizzing through his giant iTunes catalog looking for songs for the Music Series unless he already picks them throughout the week, he just sees a song and says, "Yeah, that's the one for tonight."

'Love is the Drug' by Roxy Music fits that bill to a T.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with OASIS!

On your way then with the chorus to 'Wonderwall' running through your brain. On such a perfect night we'll end it with a perfect song...

Did you know the Eiffel Tower originally was going to go to Barcelona but the city thought it looked just awful and took a pass, so Paris it was.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

The Hoopin' Owls

A tale of two teams, we'll start with the boys not because we're sexist but because with their win over Wittemore-Prescott they clinched the North Star League Big Dipper title and we're still in mid-February. The boys are ranked #11 in the state and sport a cool 17-0 record. Fear the Owls.

The girls? Oh they're undefeated as well. The Lady Owls are 14-0 overall and played at second place Rogers City Friday (We're looking for scores, trust us) and host Rogers City tonight. One win in the two games with Rogers City clinches the league title for the Owls.

With the boys North Star football championship to add to this run, Oscoda is starting to become the Titletown of northeastern Michigan.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with HANK WILLIAMS!

No, THE Hank Williams, not the odorous offsprings. Ryman Hank Williams. Is there a better song to start a Music Series on a frozen Friday than 'Hey, Good Lookin'? Nah.

For those that haven't been, there is a sign over the back door at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, it reads, "Hank stepped outside to smoke, you will to."

Savage.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SNEAKER PIMPS!

God damn 'Six Underground' is a great jam.

That's all. A great jam Johnny never fast-forwards so let's get on with it...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with TALK TALK!

One of the best headphone songs around so if they are available give them a whirl. Setting the Wayback Machine tonight back to January 1984 so get ready to pop those Izod collars. Ladies and Jellyspoons here's Talk Talk with 'It's My Life' taking us out tonight.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with DICK DALE & HIS DEL-TONES!

Here it comes, the most important question you can ask yourself about music, and oh so personal.

What is the theme music you want for yourself? When you're out walking around or doing things, what music is playing over your head to make you feel cooler? Is it an instrumental? A song? Go ahead and think on that while Johnny reveals the song, an instrumental called 'Tidal Wave', that would be his choice. So kids, what song other than this one is yours? Feel free to hit us up in comments.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NIRVANA!

Johnny almost typed the headline as Nirvarna, as Butt-head used to call them. "Hey Beavis, it's Nirvarna."

As Ed Sullivan might have said, "Here's a really great band hailing from the Seattle area. They have a very unique sound and we really hope you're going to like NIRVARNA...NIRVANA with 'All Apologies'!"

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with CHEAP TRICK!

Johnny's going for last-song earworm tonight but it's OK, it's the good kind of earworm. Cheap Trick is one of those great fly-under-the-radar-type bands that Johnny has loved since way back. Johnny also remembers Rick Nielsen being hit in the head with a beer bottle on stage at the Pontiac Silverdome as Cheap Trick opened for KISS and left the stage bleeding. It was when Cheap Trick was riding high on the Budokan album and the fact is was also KISS made that a show to remember.

He's Rick Nielsen, of course he came back after getting stitches to finish the show! As he was offstage a clearly enraged Ace Frehley came out and said he hoped Gene Simmons cut the balls off the asshole who threw it with his axe guitar. Johnny and his friend saw somebody getting beaten on the main floor.

Somebody.

Late night open thread

The strange, painful odyssey that brought Johnny to Oscoda began one year ago today with the passing of the best woman he's ever had the privilege to know. Never take anything for granted dear readers. It sounds like pablum when someone says 'don't take any day for granted' but until something like this happens in one's own life. Take those trips, if you want to see something go see it. It doesn't have to be a big fucking thing, it has to be your fucking thing. Take your loved ones. Tell them you love them. One easy lesson from this situation is tell those you love you love them everyday and all the time. Then do it tomorrow. Johnny promises you if the worst should happen but you've told that someone you loved them often, you'll not sit around regretting something was left unsaid. It's a powerful +10 Grief Shield and so easy to earn in your adventures together.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Oscoda will be repped at the State of the Union speech tonight!

Congressman Dan Kildee, a champion of the Oscoda area when it comes to PFAS and their leeching into the water supply from the Air Force's use of the PFAS's at Wurtsmith AFB for decades, will have a local expert and someone really looking out for Oscoda at tonight's State of the Union speech, Cathy Wusterbarth. Locals who educate themselves on the issues of the day and work so hard for their communities are so vital to a great place to live. Johnny is ecstatic than Ms. Wusterbarth has been invited. Her experiences can only help out the Oscoda area going forward.

Keep up the good work and keep after the Air Force and thanks for trying to make the community a better place to live and visit.

The party that is Perchville is tomorrow and Sunday. See ya in East Tawas, Aloha!

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE HOLLIES!

Johnny says this is one of the five best starts, say 20 seconds in this case, to any song ever. FIGHT HIM! So iconic, all the post production that had to go into this song to get it just right, so great. REVERB! With a beginning that good, well, its going to begin the Music Series tonight as well...

'Long Cool Woman in A Black Dress' putting the snap in your neck and the air guitar in your hands.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with JOY DIVISION!

First off, the label that says this is the best audio, well it might be the best audio of this song ever. Cleaned up, no loss as far as Johnny can tell. Man, it's like everything is like clearer in nature and stuff. Joy Division favoring us tonight with 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BROTHERS JOHNSON!

Do you know anyone who doesn't love this song? Of course not, it's so choice. So many layers, so soulful and funky and it's not normally a bass guitar can anchor a song so well or so prominently. Shit, Johnny's listened to this song three times putting this post together he loves it that much. 'Strawberry Letter 23' taking us out tonight.
