Time for Oscoda, After Dark

After two days of solid rain, how about a little happy?

Johnny saw this sidewalk chalk art a couple days back and thought it looked really positive and hopeful. Something we can all use a bit of anymore.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NICK LOWE!

Johnny is a HUGE Nick Lowe fan. Just about anything he does Johnny enjoys. He can go deep into Mr. Nick Lowe's catalog on his iTunes and everything is just aces.

That being said, in troubled times, sometimes everyone could use a good sing-along. 'Cruel to Be Kind' getting us started tonight fills that role perfectly and Johnny wants to hear your pretty voices on this one.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ROXY MUSIC!

Johnny will always owe a debt to his best friend Roger growing up. Roger was four years older than your host and was heavily into the FM music scene and taught his grasshopper right from wrong musically. Johnny had strong opinions already but an older sensei was most helpful. One band Roger turned Johnny on to was Roxy Music and the rest they say, is history.

'Both Ends Burning' favoring your ears tonight. As always, headphones are recommended.
The sharp eye will catch Jerry Hall as the mermaid in this shot of the album cover.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ERIC CLAPTON!

Oh you better believe this one will stick in your head which of course is the goal of all our third songs on the Music Series each week; Something to take with you if you will.

"Lay Down Sally' taking us out tonight and your earworm all weekend.

Babe Ruth wore a cabbage leaf under his cap to keep his head cool. He changed it every two innings. Now you know.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE SUPREMES!

Johnny is dedicating tonight's Music Series to all the people here in Michigan trying to make a difference in anyway they can to help people stay safe and stay alive. Staying home, wearing the masks, checking on friends and relatives while social distancing makes YOU a good Michigander.

But tonight is especially for the front line workers in the trenches working uphill, so hard, night and day against impossible odds and yet they keep fighting through the danger and keep coming back out of their magnificent sense of duty and compassion. A friend of Johnny's suggested a fund like 9/11 families got to look after their long-term health, hopefully 86 a few med and nursing school student loans, and hopefully get a great-ass two week vacation somewhere. Johnny backs this idea! You ALL rock our world!

So Michigan do-gooders, The Supremes and 'Someday We'll Be Together' gets us started tonight.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MOBY!

Johnny gave tonight's Music Series a lot of thought, when it's dedicated to most of the good people of Michigan, it better sound right. To that end, it's Moby with, 'Porcelain'
Johnny thanks the music gods for the piano on this track every time he hears it.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with PRINCE!

You don't know how long Johnny has hoped to play a Prince song on the Music Series but for sooooo long they have been off limits on YouTube. Not so much anymore since his tragic passing. After years and years of just figuring the answer was a no Johnny was thrilled tonight to find differently.

Twen-ty-three positions in a one-night stand. 'Gett Off' taking us out tonight, slinky-like.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE TEMPTATIONS!

Johnny will just bet you think you're a pretty good singer. You might not admit this to anyone ever but once you're alone you like to let fly with your best voice. OK, Johnny can work with that.

Here you go, here's your song to prove your mettle, bring it home with The Temptations on the timeless 'Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)' testing your claims. C'mon, you can give it a whirl, what have you got to lose?

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BRONSKI BEAT!

Nothing screams 1980's like a song by Bronski Beat. That's not a bad thing mind you. That'd be a great discussion for a party one evening, bands whose music just screams 80's.

'Hit That Perfect Beat' will get you up and dancing so you might as well push the furniture back right now.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with TALKING HEADS!

While we're not exactly in a 'Life During Wartime' situation, there are some similarities. Johnny went to the store and got some groceries, some peanut butter, just last week.

Oscoda sure ain't got no parties or discos going on. No fooling around here.

Sad news from Jersey City has reached us here...

Jersey City councilman Michael Yun has passed away from the coronavirus. Johnny liked Councilman Yun. Yes, despite the disagreement over the way Yun handled the puppy mills in Jersey City question he was usually a well-reasoned councilman who bravely often stood up to Mayor Steve Fulop's seeming super-majority on council. He asked tough questions even if none of them would ever involve the word "breast" or "boobs."

Michael Yun was a good man, he will be missed.

It was not lost on us that the wonderfully talented Bill Withers passed away today at 81. Johnny figured that there had been so many wonderful tributes to him online today what would the point have been? We'll of course circle back to one of those great songs one day on the Music Series, don't fret.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BARRY WHITE!

If you want to start out a big Music Series, you can't get any bigger than the Walrus of Love, Mr. Barry White.

Did you know then, Trey Parker and Matt Stone had Barry White in mind for the South Park voice of 'Chef' but never approached him to do it. 'Standing in the Shadows of Love' getting us started right tonight.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE BEATLES!

Such an incredibly well produced record/track. It's almost like these guys were good or something.

'Fool on the Hill'--GOOD
'Fool on the Hill' with headphones--BETTER
'Fool on the Hill' with Master & Dynamic headphones--BEST

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SONIC YOUTH!

Quality band. Quality song.

There aren't many bands more aptly named that this one kids. That might be a fun party discussion, bands whose names fit like a glove. Until that kicks off, here's 'Drunken Butterfly' from the Dirty album.

You'll want to adjust the volume UP. You're welcome.
