Late night open thread

Don't put the shovels away, Friday looks like it could get quite messy as well.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

In 1988 this is how one showed off their game with the ladies of Oscoda

Another from the wonderful trove of YouTube clips from "brothermitchlove" and yes, if you wanted to talk to 'Chic's' back in the day friends, well this was how it was done. It's almost a documentary.

Late night open thread

Johnny has been tossing around how to say this and rather than bore everyone with flowery stories of yore he'll just come out with it: Johnny is going to require heart surgery and yes, it'll be a bypass. It's yet to be scheduled but here's the message Johnny wants to convey, he'll let everyone here and on Twitter about a surgery date. If he's not around for a bit after that it'll be some rehab. If he's gone for a really really long time, well from Ypsi to Jersey City to Oscoda, it's been a wonderful trip and actually quite fun. If this blog and Twitter account suddenly go dark, again, it's been a slice.

The plan is to keep things on schedule here and stick around for a long time and annoy a lot more people and entertain friends. In the words of one Sandor Clegane from Game of Thrones, "I'm a big fucker and I'm tough to kill."

Saturday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ELVIS PRESLEY!

As many of you know Johnny and his girlfriend go all out on Friday night for Movie Night. Last night was Grease and in coming up with some backstory nuggets to toss out over dinner he learned one of the more eerie Hollywood stories ever. During Stockard Channing's mocking 'Look At Me I'm Sandy D' song and dance she make a reference to Elvis; "Elvis, Elvis, let me be. Keep that pelvis far from me."

It was filmed August 16, 1977, the day Elvis Presley died.

Sooooo with that it's Elvis everyone, and 'Viva Las Vegas'

Saturday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE YARDBIRDS!

Gather 'round kids, Johnny is going to hip to to something cool. Unlike on Chopped or Top Chef when someone is eliminated and invariably walk down the hall of losers and tell us, "This isn't the last you've heard from me..." well when everyone was walking away from The Yardbirds and said that same thing, they were actually right. 'Shapes of Things' up next.

Saturday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE CRAMPS!

Doesn't everyone fell this way from time to time? Some more than others. Some have made a years-long blogging effort to vent online and not be an actual 'Mean Machine' in real life. There are about three great instruments for you to air-play on this one to so have fun kids!

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Remember the time the TV show Mythbusters came to Oscoda?

Apparently they needed a place to blow things up real good and went right out to Wurtsmith to see what the good people at Kalitta Air could send hurtling.

Time for Oscoda, After Dark

Anybody want to see a video of the 1968 Oscoda 4th of July parade?

Boy howdy, set the Wayback Machine to 1968 and 8mm video transferred to VHS it looks like. Enjoy a time when Wurtsmith was still Wurtsmith.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with PETULA CLARK!

Johnny grew up in a sleepy little rural township. We're talking small. There wasn't much going on. Then Johnny heard Petula Clark sing this masterpiece one day and suddenly Johnny had hope. 'Downtown' yes, that is where it's at! That's where things change! So Johnny started hanging around the closest downtown, Ortonville Michigan. He then began wondering what the fuck Petula Clark's problem was.

He still does some days.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with TEARS FOR FEARS!

If Johnny would have ever had children he'd have named one Roland Orzabal.

Yes, even if it was a girl. 'Mad World' up next.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with HUEY "PIANO" SMITH & THE CLOWNS!

The legendary Mr. Smith passed away earlier this week at 89. Did you know then, Huey wrote the summer classic, 'Sea Cruise' but the vocals were given to Frankie Ford who had a mega-hit with it. Smith's piano however remained on the track. If you'd like to hear Huey's version of 'Sea Cruise' just follow this handy link.

Taking us out tonight the madcap, 'Don't You Just Know It'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SNAKE RIVER CONSPIRACY!

Johnny has a rule about cover songs; Bring something new to your remake. Do something different. Make it yours somehow. Move the song forward if possible. Snake River Conspiracy covering The Smiths classic 'How Soon Is Now' and you tell us in comments how they did.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NEIL YOUNG!

From the Harvest album it's 'Heart of Gold' taking us out tonight. Johnny can remember playing harmonica on this song in the studio...

Wait, that wasn't Johnny.
