With any luck Johnny will be wandering back on a trail Sunday morning to his favorite canoe race watching spot. Here comes the big weekend Oscoda, let's get out there and have some fun.
In the words of Dudley Moore in the movie Arthur, "Isn't fun the best thing to have?"
Sure, maybe this one is a bit on the nose with the big Grayling to Oscoda canoe marathon beginning Saturday night at 9pm and ending here Sunday morning. Johnny has never seen so many people around town as the last couple days. This is going to be a HUGE event. Getting us pre-gamed it's Al Green and the original version of 'Take Me to the River'
Johnny is totally going to let the music be the thing here. We're concentrating on the great music of The Alan Parsons Project and not looking at other things he may or may not have been involved with that everybody already knows. Putting that greatness on display it's 'Some Other Time'
Just awful news this week with the passing of Irish singer Sinead O'Connor at the young age of 56. What a fucking voice. What inflection. Amazingly passionate. One of those singers you instantly recognize. Johnny could pick any number of songs to pay a tribute to her but will go with is favorite, 'Troy'
Johnny is glad he never bailed on Sinead when the public outcry against her was immense. Like Ice T pointed out, she stood for something while others do not. Johnny has also learned what a hero she was to the hip hop community. Repping Public Enemy's logo on her famously shaved head at the Grammys in 1989 for not recognizing rap or hip hop as a music form was a stroke of brilliance. When it comes to that picture of the Pope? She wasn't wrong, was she?
Nothing beats some energetic live music. Here's a classic from the old show Friday's with Ian Hunter (with Mick Ronson alongside) with 'Once Bitten, Twice Shy'
Something about a Doors song, especially this one driving along in summertime in a shore town with a crescent moon like tonight. 'Moonlight Drive' up next.
Just a thought but Johnny doesn't think Aimee Mann's greasy bastard love interest is really happy the band is doing well. 'Voices Carry' taking us out tonight.
