While Johnny is cutting back on the amount of music this year (apologies) the City Desks, whether it be Ypsilanti, Jersey City or Oscoda have music on New Year's Eve Day leading up to the new year. Let's get that started!
As some of you may have read earlier on Twitter Johnny's dog Finn passed away this morning. Johnny could go on and on about what a wonderful pup she was and how she got along with people as well as dogs, a real type-O entity. When it came to kids, she'd just let them get away with murder as she'd be squeezed, petted, patted and loved on. In passing the news around Johnny heard from two people that as kids Finn helped them get over a true fear of dogs.
Rest well, sweetness. Going to scatter your ashes along the very trails you loved so much.
So, just the one song tonight in honor of Finn, the likes of whom won't be back this way in a very very long time. 'Atomic Dog' is our song tonight, fitting.
Johnny lost his musical idol and the world lost a musical visionary 21 years ago today. No celebrity surprise death has ever hit Johnny harder. 'War Cry' taking us out tonight.
Johnny best remembers this song playing at the first real party he ever went in high school with no parents, beer and the devil's lettuce. After about his sixth red plastic cup of beer Johnny's night was headed for disaster. The music was tip top however.
Quite the announcement this week about the first super concert tour of 2024 with Journey and Def Leppard headlining meaning they will be playing all the dates while Heart, Cheap Trick and this guy here, the Steve Miller Band will play on certain dates. In honor of such a good lineup let's start off with 'Jungle Love' this evening.
Of all the bands on this fine summer tour Johnny has seen Heart the most times live at FOUR. Hey, Johnny loves him some Heart and so let's go back to the first song so very responsible for making him such a longtime fan, 'Crazy On You'.
Johnny got a quick chit chat with Ann and Nancy Wilson after a book signing in NYC one afternoon. It's always so great when people you have admired as performers turn out to be really cool people in person however quick that meeting may be.
The beginning drums by Mr. Bun E. Carlos on this one, 'Ain't That A Shame' from their Live at Budokan album is simply one of the best things about music for old Johnny. Air drum along with Johnny on this one, won't you?
Let Johnny take this moment to thank to good people of Oscoda for their hospitality and graciousness these last five years. Yes, today marks five years since Johnny moved to Oscoda.
Just such sad news at the passing of Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan. Johnny figures a lot of places at this time of year will favor his memory with 'Fairytale of New York' being Christmas time and all but not Johnny. He wanted something a little more, well, Shane MacGowan. Lorca's Novena' taking us out tonight.
